Schoodic Lake is 10 miles long and 2 miles wide. The lake has a depth of 188 feet. Schoodic Lake has an abundant source of big fish such as Togue (Lake Trout), Salmon, Brook Trout, Bass and Cust. The lake is crystal clear for 20 feet and beyond on a sunny day. A big plus is that the lake is spring fed.

While here you can go swimming, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking. There is always something to do for you to spend your summer days. To the north, you can view Mt. Katahdin plus, you are near to the entrance of Baxter State Park.

Trout and Salmon are common catches throughout the year, but primarily in May and June. The Salmon and Trout prowling the waters just below the surface at this time of year and they can be taken on flies or streamers. Also very popular are lures and ultra-light equipment that adds to the thrill of the catch.

The areas of Jo Mary and Baxter State Park offer many ponds and rivers such as East and West Branches of the Penobscot River. Depending where you are, some of the streams, rivers and ponds are open to Fly-Fishing only. This can give you some hefty Trout and Salmon. Some of the ponds in our area are remote, but, a walk in or the use of a 4-wheel drive truck, will give you access to some great Trout fishing.

On the Penobscot River, some stretches are Fly-Fishing only; with a minimum length limit of 26 inches on Salmon. This river has produced many trophy-size Salmon. Fly Fishing on the smaller ponds can produce some fat Brookies in June.

Bass fishing is best in late June, July and August. This time of year can produce plenty of action for all. The Bass fishing can get hot and heavy during these summer months. The Bass in our area can grow to the 3 to 4 lb. range. In Northern Maine, the Bass fishing has been underutilized, which means we have larger than average size fish. Come and try your luck!

For the kids, Perch and Crappie are daily catches in Schoodic Lake, especially in the weedy areas.
